Laird Museum

What was the original Village Office with a one room jail cell, is now the Laird Museum. Operated by the New Horizons Senior Citizens, it is full of the rich history of Laird.

At the Laird Museum you will discover the story of the suspenseful events that occurred in 1936. A mysterious drifter by the name of George White was the first person to be locked in the Laird jail cell as well as the first person to escape it! Leaving a permanent mark in the building with his .455 Smith & Wesson, Henry Hopke, better known by his alias George White, lost in a standoff with the law and was laid to rest in the North East corner of the Laird Cemetery.
